- Patients with COVID-19-associated stroke face a unique set of challenges when it comes to their stroke recovery. Some of them may need oxygen, and they may also experience shortness of breath, at least initially. Because of that, we start the process of recovery early on, in the first couple of days of admission. And we have a multidisciplinary approach, which encompasses physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and even rehab specialists, to really come up with a tailored rehab regimen for each patient. Now, that tailored regimen extends beyond just the hospitalization. When patients leave the hospital, they may go to a rehab facility, which ensures that patients with the more severe forms of stroke continue to get better. Whereas patients who can go home safely do so, with the appropriate services provided to them, either at home or in physical therapy offices. Now, all of this is done in order to provide the best possible chance of long-term recovery for patients who have had a stroke, whether or not it's associated with COVID-19.
