This is a common concern and complaint nowadays because people are being asked to restrict for the greater good of everyone else. Fortunately, we have a lot of tools available to us that allow us to overcome this obstacle. For example, many of us have technologies available to us through our smart devices, laptops, iPads, and such that can enable us to connect with people using video services, like Zoom or Skype or Facetime. And while not perfect, it does allow us to really see each other and be in each other's spaces in a way that's pretty close to the real thing.
If you don't have those tools available, you can go old school and pick up the telephone and just call someone. And you may also use it as an opportunity to call people that you haven't connected with in a while and rekindle lost friendships. If you can't do those things, maybe you can still get outside, as long as you practice guidelines set forth by the CDC, which include wearing a mask and practicing proper social distancing.
So for example, you could take a brief reprieve and get outside and walk around the neighborhood, and maybe use it as an opportunity to connect with people you don't know, giving them a smile or a wave or simple nod. And if you have trouble walking around the neighborhood, you can perhaps sit on your stoop where your porch and do the same thing. Allow people to pass by your space and give them a friendly nod or wave just to show them that you're there and connect in a meaningful way. All of these things taken together, while not perfect, can help diminish feelings of social isolation.
