- If you're diagnosed with COVID-19, our recommendation in order to prevent a stroke is to continue to take all of your previously prescribed medications, and that's especially true for any blood pressure medications, any diabetes medications, and aspirin if you're already taking aspirin. We currently don't have enough scientific evidence to suggest that you start taking aspirin while having COVID-19 infection, but it's an active area of study. What we don't know is if the benefit of taking aspirin outweighs the risk, and so we don't recommend that you start any new medications, unless they are prescribed by your physician. The most important thing to do, however, is really to focus on prevention. And that means preventing COVID-19 infection. We recommend that everyone wear a mask when outdoors or in public spaces, that everyone keep a six foot physical distance, and that as much as possible, people wash their hands and watch what they're touching.
