STAY STRONG
Advanced Care at Montefiore for Treatment of Neurological Conditions and COVID-19
What is the treatment for patients with neurological issues and COVID-19?
Montefiore Health System is well equipped to manage patients with neurological illness and COVID-19. During the pandemic, our comprehensive stroke center stayed open and continued to take care of stroke patients who had major blockages in the arteries in their brain, including offering advanced techniques, such as mechanical thrombectomies for patients with the most severe kind of strokes. Our complex neuroscience group is also well equipped to manage patients who present with seizures and COVID-19, in addition to patients who have dizziness or confusion, which could be signs of other underlying medical illnesses. For patients who have the loss of sense of smell or headaches, which are minor neurologic symptoms, these often get better by themselves and do not require advanced medical treatment. However, if you do have headaches, you can take over-the-counter medications such as Advil or Tylenol. Many people also ask whether or not they should be taking aspirin if they get the COVID-19 illness. While many patients are recommended to take those medicines, it is extremely important that you first contact your primary care physician for consultation prior to taking those medications.
